There are thousands of untested chemicals on the market, many of which are linked to decreased fertility, diseases and disorders like autism, cancer, and alzheimer’s.
Every day, Americans use products that have not been tested for safety by an independent expert they can trust. Only 11 substances, among them, mercury and chloroform, have been prohibited or restricted from use in America’s personal care products. By contrast, the European Union has banned more than 1,300 chemicals. *(source)*
Harmful chemicals in our personal care products sounds like a bunch of hype, but the cosmetics industry is so loosely regulated by the FDA, we just can’t be guaranteed the safety of our products in America. Even scientists at Harvard are concerned about these untested chemicals.
For a long time, I didn’t believe it. I didn’t want to. I could be wrong, but with disease rates continuing to rise, why take a chance?
Watch this interesting, informative video for a great explanation of this issue.
Get the Facts:
- Europe bans more than 1,300 harmful chemicals from personal care products. The U.S. bans 11. (EU Cosmetic Directive 2013; FDA 2015, Campaign for Safe Cosmetics)
- The U.S. has not passed a major federal law to regulate personal care product ingredients since 1938.
- According to Dr. Samuel Epstein, former head of the Cancer Prevention Coalition, “It’s more dangerous to put a product on your skin than to eat it.” Why? Because our bodies have detox mechanisms at work; our skin does not.
- Over 200 chemicals have been found in babies’ cord blood, many of which are harmful to the brain and nervous system, cause cancer and/or cause birth defects and abnormal development. (EWG, 2009)
I am an extremely frugal person (see my post here about ways I save and make money online), so it hurt to discover that all the shampoo, moisturizer, and lip gloss I faithfully bought on sale and clipped coupons for at the grocery store weren’t making the cut. Not a single one!

- Baby Essentials
- Kids Essentials
- Face Essentials
- Oil Essentials
- Spa Essentials
None of these products contain synthetic fragrance, triclosan, petrolatum, PEG’s, sodium laureth sulfate, and many many more on our list of Ingredients To Avoid . Many of our ingredients are organic and are listed as such on the product description, so you know what you’re getting.
We now carry pure, high quality essential oils in addition to personal care/home products! I am loving my new sweet orange oil (not pictured)- a few drops of the oil feels great on my dry hands. It sinks in right away and leaves me smelling delicious!
Our products smell exactly like the plants/ingredients they contain. The moisturizing hand soap has the light scent of a piece of citrus fruit. Close your eyes and the lavender bath soak will make you swear you’re in the middle of a lavender field. This is the beauty of products that contain real ingredients- not synthetic “fragrance”! I never thought I was a big fan of lavender or citrus scents in perfumes and such, but once I smelled REAL lavender and REAL citrus in my products, I was sold!
A few more recent additions to our line:
In hopes that you love these products free of harmful chemicals as much as I do, I am offering $30 towards any Pure Haven Essentials purchase! Remember that shipping and tax rates will still apply, so if you don’t want to spend a dime over the $30, plan accordingly. I will notify you via e-mail if you are the winner!
