There are thousands of untested chemicals on the market, many of which are linked to decreased fertility, diseases and disorders like autism, cancer, and alzheimer’s.

Every day, Americans use products that have not been tested for safety by an independent expert they can trust. Only 11 substances, among them, mercury and chloroform, have been prohibited or restricted from use in America’s personal care products. By contrast, the European Union has banned more than 1,300 chemicals. *(source)*

Harvard - quote - neurotoxins

Harmful chemicals in our personal care products sounds like a bunch of hype, but the cosmetics industry  is so loosely regulated by the FDA, we just can’t be guaranteed the safety of our products in America. Even scientists at Harvard are concerned about these untested chemicals.

For a long time, I didn’t believe it. I didn’t want to. I could be wrong, but with disease rates continuing to rise, why take a chance?

Watch this interesting, informative video for a great explanation of this issue.

Get the Facts:

  • Europe bans more than 1,300 harmful chemicals from personal care products. The U.S. bans 11. (EU Cosmetic Directive 2013; FDA 2015, Campaign for Safe Cosmetics)
  • The U.S. has not passed a major federal law to regulate personal care product ingredients since 1938.
  • According to Dr. Samuel Epstein, former head of the Cancer Prevention Coalition, “It’s more dangerous to put a product on your skin than to eat it.” Why? Because our bodies have detox mechanisms at work; our skin does not.
  • Over 200 chemicals have been found in babies’ cord blood, many of which are harmful to the brain and nervous system, cause cancer and/or cause birth defects and abnormal development. (EWG, 2009)

I am an extremely frugal person (see my post here about ways I save and make money online), so it hurt to discover that all the shampoo, moisturizer, and lip gloss I faithfully bought on sale and clipped coupons for at the grocery store weren’t making the cut. Not a single one!

click My Non Toxic Journey at the top of the page.

And now, onto the reason you’re reading this post! I am giving one lucky reader a chance to try Pure Haven Essentials products for themselves! Our line currently consists of these categories, with more on the way soon! :

  • Skin Essentials
  • Body Essentials
  • Hair Essentials
  • Baby Essentials
  • Kids Essentials
  • Face Essentials
  • Oil Essentials
  • Spa Essentials

None of these products contain synthetic fragrance, triclosan, petrolatum, PEG’s, sodium laureth sulfate, and many many more on our list of Ingredients To Avoid . Many of our ingredients are organic and are listed as such on the product description, so you know what you’re getting.

We now carry pure, high quality essential oils in addition to personal care/home products! I am loving my new sweet orange oil (not pictured)- a few drops of the oil feels great on my dry hands. It sinks in right away and leaves me smelling delicious!

Pure Haven Essentials Essential Oils!

Our products smell exactly like the plants/ingredients they contain. The moisturizing hand soap has the light scent of a piece of citrus fruit. Close your eyes and the lavender bath soak will make you swear you’re in the middle of a lavender field. This is the beauty of products that contain real ingredients- not synthetic “fragrance”! I never thought I was a big fan of lavender or citrus scents in perfumes and such, but once I smelled REAL lavender and REAL citrus in my products, I was sold!

A few more recent additions to our line:

Pure Haven Essentials spa products and orange essential oil

In hopes that you love these products free of harmful chemicals as much as I do, I am offering $30 towards any Pure Haven Essentials purchase! Remember that shipping and tax rates will still apply, so if you don’t want to spend a dime over the $30, plan accordingly. I will notify you via e-mail if you are the winner!

  1. I’ve been trying to make the switch to more natural products. Since having kids, I feel more cautious about what products I use. I also want to make sure that if my kids happen to touch them it won’t hurt them. Great post!

    1. Me too! That was my motivation four years ago when my daughter was born. I started paying more attention to what I was putting on her skin and whether it was actually good for her.

  2. Awesome giveaway! Very excited for the winner to be announced! Quick question–do you have Pure Haven deodorant line? I know that most deodorants on the market are filled with harmful chemicals.

    1. Yes! We have a stick deodorant that smells yummy enough to eat, and a lavender scented spray deodorant that smells as good as perfume. 🙂 I use the stick in the morning and the spray for touch-ups as needed. No aluminum in either deodorant, just good ingredients like cocoa butter and essential oils.

    1. Yes, I haven’t gotten into essential oils a ton, but I do use them now and then. My favorite Pure Haven items are the skin and spa line! Good luck in the giveaway- Remember to come back and tweet about it every day to boost your chances of winning!

  3. I have been using essential oils for diy household and beauty products. This would definitely come in handy in refilling my supply.

    1. I like to diffuse them! I bought eucalyptus this winter to help with common cold congestion and guess what- we didn’t really have that issue this year!

  4. So many great products! We made the switch to toxin free soaps, lotions, etc. and non-GMO foods because we read about how bad all those chemicals are for you. I’m excited to see who wins!
